This post is for Carlos Osorio, he was giving me shit all weekend about getting rid of my mustache, figured it was time to post this up here. This project has been featured in a few spots around the internet, happy with the way it turned out. I did the majority of the shooting and Ian Carleton put it all together. I find so much joy in producing little shorts like this.

In the words of Ian Carleton:

"Alas, the glory of mustache march has came and left us. My condolences to all those out there feeling empty above their lips today. I was cleaning out some old boxes in my mothers house when I came across a disc with a bunch of old holga photos on it. I was given the camera as a christmas present a few years back, only using it for one roll of film before passing it onto a friend, this is the outcome. Looking beyond the technical flaws, these photos sure do bring back some memories.

Good friend, former classmate and a constant source of inspiration, Ian Willms, takes second place in the Domestic News Picture Story category of the National Press Photographers Association's Best in Photojournalism 2010 competition. I know how hard Ian has been working on this project, its an honor well deserved.

From his blog over at ianwillms.blogspot.com: "This was my first attempt at a long-term project and shooting it all on 120 film with a toy camera made the process extremely difficult. There were countless hours spent walking those streets, shooting, developing film, scanning negatives and learning how to put together a solid edit."

Had the opportunity to spend a bit of time with Italian-Canadian Frank Iacobucci, Order of Canada recipient and former deputy justice minister who sat on the Supreme Court of Canada for 13 years. More recently, Iacobucci was hired to settle a dispute involving Afghan detainee documents, the Afghan inquiry. I blasted a few frames during the interview then had a bit of time for something a little more posed after that. I will post some better frames when the magazine comes out!

The Burlington Cougars faced the Newmarket Hurricanes in the Central Canadian Hockey League west final last week. I shot two games in the series, Newmarket absolutely cleaned up, it didn't seem like Burlington had a chance. The Hurricanes are now waiting for the winner of the East Division final between Bowmanville and Wellington. Some of my photos ran in the Burlington Post, that was a first for me.

This is the short I shot the other day at Horseshoe Resort. Shot it all with a Nikon D90 and Nikon 10.5mm fisheye. Just a bunch of friends trying to enjoy some fun in the sun before this snow melts away. I have been shooting a ton of really neat freelance assignments, not much I can show until the magazines come out, so you'll have to stick around! I've also had three Guelph Mercury front pages in the past two weeks! And spring is just around the corner, life is the best!

Shot a hockey match last week between the Chinese womens Olympic hockey team and the Toronto Aeros. This was the final exhibition game the team would play before leaving for the Vancouver Olympics. Local Toronto team, the Aeros, appeared to be a fairly even match.

OHL hockey action, Niagara IceDogs at the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday night. This was one of those hockey games where, despite the 5 goals in total, it didn't seem like much was going on. I was terrified when the first period ended and I still didn't have a single photo I felt good about filing.

I was asked to shoot a cooking-show-style video for the North of the City Magazine online edition. After the shoot they asked for a portrait of the chef with the dish, as well as a shot of the dish for the print edition. Wasn't quite prepared for that, so all of this is natural light with whatever photo gear I had on me at the time. I'm quite content with how the images turned out!

I spent a good chunk of last week shooting skateboarding, biking and wakeskating at Muskoka Woods Resort (www.muskokawoods.com) for Want Beverages (www.wantbeverages.com). The guys over at Want attack the resort for a week every summer where they get in on a bunch of fun activities, sailing, zipline, paintball, trampoline, all capped off with a big demo for the kids. I had a great time hanging out with the team, hope to go back neat year. Here are a few images from the lake with Want team rider and all around cool guy Addison Farr. I will be dropping a few more photos from the trip in the coming days.

The past two weeks have been great... despite not having a single editorial assignment, loosing $955 at the casino and falling out of a kayak fully clothed. I spent the past few days along the lake with my beer drinking, guitar playing, camera operating companions Ian and Newman. I made some photos and shot some video, I'll post an edit when Ian is all finished cutting it.

Despite the horrible weather, a whole mess of marijuana enthusiasts still showed up on Johnston Green to celebrate this joyous bong ripping holiday. I am about one month deep into my extended vacation (...unemployment), decided it would be a great time to do a bit of traveling. I am currently visiting Canmore, Alberta, based freelance photographer and all around good guy Matt Timmins. Today we went for an early morning hike, trying to make it to the top of Chinaman's Peak for sunrise. The usual 2 hour journey took a bit longer due to lack of proper night time hiking equipment. If you ever hike up a mountain in the middle of the night I would suggest bringing a headlamp or a flashlight. Despite the added minutes, we made it to the peak just after sunrise and still had a few hours of beautiful morning light. Stay tuned for a fun little video from the adventure!
